LED, short from Light Emitting Diode (diode that emits light) is a semi-conductor that emits light when current is passed through it in the right direction. In the beginning, LED technology was used in the automobile industry, later it expanded to gardening tools, TVs, nail polish...

Small ecological footprint
LED lamps have much less impact on the envrionment than UV lamps. They do not contain mercury, do not have any unpleasant smells and there is no Ozone emision. LED technology does not require any additional investment into equipment for the disposal of dangerous chemical waste, which is required with UV technology.
Energy efficient
LED lamps have a very long life span, up to 20 000 hours, compared to UV lamps, which last from 700 - 1 000 hours. LED lamps do not require much maintance and they use up to 80% less energy than traditional mercury light bulbs. When using UV technology, warm-up and cool-down times have to be taken into account. Continously switching UV lamps on and off can significantly reduce their life span. LED lamps, on the other hand, are ready to use right away, Continously switching them on and off does not affect them at all.
